A Jackson-based army reserve unit will be placed on active duty in response to the global war on terrorism.

The 303rd Military Police Company from Jackson will leave for Fort Dix New Jersey on Oct. 21. The soldiers will train for convoy security and basic law and order police duties.

It's in response to Operation Enduring Freedom, the global war on terrorism. Soldiers say they expect to be sent overseas after the training session, but the whereabouts are unknown.

The 163-man unit was notified about deployment on Sept. 13. The unit does not know how long the mission will last.
