Tuesday the City of Lansing closed the sidewalk near Saturday's deadly hit-and-run. Signs were posted on the north sidewalk on East Saginaw between Larch and Pennsylvania telling pedestrians to take another route.

Police said seven-year-old Chantell Buckner and her two sisters were walking in the road when they were hit because the north sidewalk was not plowed.

City officials said they never plow that sidewalk in order to discourage pedestrians from using it in the first place because it ends abruptly. They also said they've never had problems before.

Friends and teachers said Chantell was "cheerful, loved to sing, and was always giving hugs."

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at Holy Temple Ministries, Church of God in Christ, located at the intersection of Jolly and Pleasant Grove roads in Lansing.

Visitation begins at 11:30 a.m. with services following.
