The expected drop in temperature is keeping the city of Portland on alert as ice continues to build on the Grand River near the city's dam. Water levels dropped about one foot overnight but Friday morning it was back up again.
North of the Portland dam, ice is jammed for miles. Slush from the Looking Glass River is also contributing to the blockage. If water levels rise another foot or two they will surpass the highest water level in recent history.
Portland Board of Light & Power will have staff monitoring water levels and the possibility of flooding all weekend long.
