The mother of a slain 12-year-old Detroit girl says the shooting that claimed the child's life stemmed from a misunderstanding about a mobile phone.
Amanda Talton tells the Detroit Free Press that a man came to her northwest side home Tuesday night believing she had a phone that belonged to another woman.
Talton says she found the phone that day at a home-based tax preparer's business and gave it to an employee. She says she told that to the man who came to her home Tuesday. After closing the door she says shots were fired into the home.
Police said they arrested a 19-year-old man and his 35-year-old mother on Wednesday morning in the shooting. Charges were planned.
Chief Ralph Godbee says it was a "senseless act of violence."
