Count Day

The Department of Education estimates that for every one student in attendance on Wednesday’s count day, that school will receive about $7,100 in state funding.

For Lansing’s Sheridan Elementary, that could mean it’s count of 320 students could mean about $2.3 million for the school.

Helping to enforce this important day for schools is Lansing’s Truancy sweeps. Officers on this patrol say they catch about 12 students per day cutting class and send them back to school.

The program has been in place since the late 80’s but officers say with the implementation of truancy court, they’ve seen less repeat offenders.
