This Thanksgiving weekend, an estimated 1.35 million Michiganders hit the road. And according to AAA, it's the first November where gas prices have topped more than $3.00 a gallon.

"We have to see our family," says Jesus Torres. "So, it doesn't matter how high gas prices are we're still going to travel even if we have to make budget cuts elsewhere."

"I'm not going to stop traveling to see family. No, no I'm not."

Charm Brooks traveled to Cleveland for Thanksgiving filling up her tank a total of four times for about $120. Despite gas prices dropping an average of about $0.10 since last week, she says it really doesn't make a difference in the grand scheme of things, and she'll have to find other ways to save money so she can travel this Christmas.

"I'm going to quit smoking, and that will save me about $5.00 every two days."

But not everyone was so lucky as to be able to see family this Thanksgiving.

"If you ain't got the money and you can't afford the gas, you can't travel," says Jimmy Johnson who missed Thanksgiving with his family in Chicago.

Adds Harold Pitcher who's family lives up North, "I wasn't angry. I was just discouraged you know. You know it's supposed to be the happy time of the year, and I'm not very happy."

High gas prices, they can cut deep into the pocketbook, but also into the heart.
