Over the past year, nearly 30,000 veterans have asked the state of Michigan for help finding work. Wednesday, only half of them have jobs.
The state offers numerous programs that assist vets in identifying their job skills and transferring them over to civilian jobs. However, veterans face many obstacles.
For example, Todd Warthen, a Navy veteran, has been looking for work for one and a half years. He says he wasn't able to get a college degree while he was serving. That has limited him.
However, Warthen remains optimistic. He's also pursuing a degree in criminal justice.
