Dozens of people, most of them first- and second-graders, were injured Thursday morning when a steel-hauling truck collided with a school bus headed for a Monroe County cider mill.
At least 10 children and one adult were critically injured. They and 34 others injured in the crash are being treated at hospitals in Monroe, Ann Arbor and Toledo, Ohio.
The bus driver wasn't injured. The truck driver was treated at a Toledo hospital and released.
The bus was headed from the Pierre Toussaint Academy, in southwest Detroit, to the cider mill just north of the Michigan-Ohio line. It carried 43 children and 17 adults.
Police say it doesn't appear that the steel hauler was at fault. His rig was traveling from Toledo to Wayne County's Canton Township with 76,000 pounds of steel.
