Time may be running out for a baby alligator living in a pond in Isabella County. The property owner discovered two alligators this summer.

Biology students at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant caught one of the reptiles. It will live in a lab at the school until it gets too big. American alligators usually grow between 12 and 15 feet.

The students say the other baby gator is hiding in burrows on an island in the pond. They fear it will die if they can't catch it before the temperature drops.

It's possible a previous owner of the animals dumped them in the pond.
