A woman accused of giving poisoned milkshakes to her husband and son has appeared in an Oakland County courtroom.
Prosecutors say Mary Ellen Cannon is charged with five felony counts, including attempted murder and poisoning. A not guilty plea was entered on her behalf.
Police say the 46-year-old Troy resident offered them milkshakes laced with deadly doses of prescription medication. They say she apparently ground up drugs prescribed for her. The motive is unclear.
Richard Shaw collapsed and 13-year-old Ian Shaw later became ill after drinking the shakes.
The boy was in the hospital for three days. Cannon's husband went into a coma but later recovered. He was hospitalized for eleven days.
