Jackson Turnout High With Many on Ballot

Jackson County Clerk Sandy Crowley knows it’s a stretch, but she's optimistic turnout could be 16 percent higher than in 2000.

There are two heated races for the state House of Representatives - Martin Griffin (D) versus Rick Baxter (R), and Mike Simpson (D) versus Leslie Mortimer (R). Also, Crowley says many township incumbents are facing challenges in their own communities.

Jackson pegs itself the "Birthplace of the Republican Party," but high turnout traditionally swings for Democrats in a presidential election year. If that tradition holds, even Jackson could see some change this cycle.
