Wednesday night, members from Lansing Eastern, Catholic Central, the Lansing School District and the public met to discuss a new football field on the east side of town.
The field would be jointly used by LCC and Eastern's soccer, track and football teams, giving them a true “home field” for the first time in 50 years for Eastern and the first time ever for LCC.
The effort is called the "Community Dream Project." It's a fund raising campaign looking to alumni, the public and grants. They estimate the facility will cost somewhere between $2 million and $4 million. Currently, Eastern has $146,000 with which to start, money left over after a land sale to Sparrow Hospital.
Best hopes have the new football field ready by 2008. The two schools currently lease fields from Sexton and Holt.
