Barry C. Baron, 47, appeared before a judge in Jackson County today to hear charges against him in the incident. Blackman Township originally arrested him on an attempted kidnapping, saying he lured two girls into his car and then wouldn't let them leave.
Monday, they say he met them through an adult phone service called Chatlink. They gave him an address, and he met them Saturday night, took them shopping at Walmart, and then to the Motel 6. It was there police say he advanced sexually on the girls, touching them in private places. The 13-year-old apparently asked to leave, and Baron took them back to the Walmart.
He's charged with second degree and fourth degree CSC, a mandatory penalty of at least 17 years in prison.
As for his job, Lansing School district placed him on administrative leave. He teaches adult education, and has since November 2001.
This is Baron's first arrest. Blackman Township PSO's say this weekend's alleged incident reflects a pattern of sexual behavior. They believe he had talked to girls on the internet before, but had never met them. They searched his Haslett apartment, and seized the computer and its accessories.
