General Motors will assemble the Hummer H-Three at its truck plant in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The H-Three is the auto giant's new midsize sport utility vehicle. GM says it will invest about $250 million in the plant to prepare for the SUV. The 2006 model is expected to arrive in dealerships during the spring of 2005.
Hummer hopes to make itself a player in the midsize SUV category, which accounts for 1.7 million sales annually. The brand's bread-and-butter vehicle, the larger H-Two, competes in a segment with about 160,000 annual sales.
GM hasn't announced pricing for the H-Three, but industry analysts say it's likely to range around $35,000.
