A group of Okemos teachers publicly displayed their disappointment on stalled contract negotiations at a school board meeting. Teachers, counselors, specialists, social workers and psychologists in the district have been without a contract since July, 2002.

The teacher contingency represented by The Okemos Education Association, is asking for a contract with better pay and benefits for teachers as well as keeping class sizes as is.

The school board sites complex budget concerns as the reason for the bottleneck in negotiations.

Teachers claim that besides quality of teaching issues, they are $380,000 apart from the administration in bargaining.
