Tears of joy, hugs, and laughter when close to 100 Army Reserve soldiers from Jackson returned from Iraq late Wednesday night. Members of the 303rd Military Police Company were all smiles when they came into town just before midnight.
The soldiers were deployed in September of last year.
Two members of their unit died in Iraq, and several others were injured.
The City of Jackson rolled out the welcome mat for the soldiers. Members of the community lined the streets for a parade to welcome the soldiers home.
The soldiers say they're glad to be home, and plan to relax during the holidays with their families.

Joe, as the mom of one of the soldiers that returned home last night, Thank you for your attempted welcome, and for your past service. I am tremendously proud of these soldiers, and am extremely thankful for their safe return, but saddened for the two lives lost from this unit. Thank you again for your faithfulness and your support, it is deeply appreciated.

Joe, I was on the highway last night coming back from the airport and followed the busses all the way back to the weight station on 94. They arrived there at about 11:05pm. You probably needed to wait just a little longer.

I believe I heard you say that the troops were coming down N West Ave to Argyle St sometime between 11 PM and midnight. I arrived on N West ave at 10:35 pm and sat there for 1 1/2 hours, no troops. They were already gone. I am a Vietnam veteran and like to give our troops a better welcome than we got, and would have saluted these folks if you had been accurate about the time. At least you covered the event, we can not thank these heros enough for all they are doing.
