At approximately 7 p.m. Sunday evening, Lansing police were chasing a man they suspected was involved in the Brandy and Betsy Lowe double-homicide from last weekend.

Eaton County Sheriff Rick Jones says police chased the man who fled into the Red Robin restaurant in Lansing's Delta Township near the intersection of Saginaw and Creyts Road. Upon entering, the suspect tried to take a hostage.

Jones says the suspect then opened fire on police who then returned fire. The suspect was hit and is reported to be in critical condition at a local hospital. A waitress was also hit in the exchange, we're told in the leg, and she will be fine.

The suspect and two other men in a car were taken into custody. The area has been taped off while authorities continue to investigate and question witnesses.
