Unless mall Santas fall into one of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's high-risk categories, they can't get a flu shot. And neither can many of the kids visiting them.

With all these germs being spread, many parents are concerned that taking their kids to see Kris Kringle may put them at a greater risk for getting sick.

But local doctors say kids are at no greater risk sitting on Santa's lap than they are just going to public places.

But just in case, some Santas are taking necessary precautions, such as using hand sanitizer and bleaching their gloves each night.

Local doctors say parents and kids can continue the holiday tradition, but they recommend washing your child's hands after visiting with Santa.
