In a committee of the whole Thursday afternoon, the Lansing city council briefly discussed the investigation into BWL financial records. A former BWL employee in the accounting department says commissioners used funds for expensive trips, dinners, alcohol, and limo rides. David Cluley believes he was fired for "blowing the whistle" on the financial issues. However, a BWL spokesperson says Cluley was fired because he inappropriately took documents to use in his civil case.
BWL has until early next week to turn over the documents. It has already decided to conduct an internal audit. The Lansing city council will decide if an external audit is needed.
