To prepare for the first snowfall of the season, the Michigan Department of Transportation winterized its vehicles about one month ago. If necessary, trucks will be sent out Wednesday to clear the highways.
Hundreds of tons of salt and sand are on hand in storage as well as an anti-ice system. The system drops liquid on the road and when it dries, it helps keep snow and sleet off the lanes.
MDOT isn't expecting any major snow-related problems Wednesday night, but its crews are on standby just in case.
