State lawmakers planned meetings today to try and hammer out agreements on spending plans for K-12 education and other aspects of the state budget.
Lawmakers face an October 31st deadline to make more than 430 million dollars in spending cuts.
Failure to reach agreement by the end of the month could result in another partial government shutdown.
State services were disrupted for more than four hours early October 1st as lawmakers struggled to reach even a temporary budget deal.
But lawmakers appear optimistic a new, more permanent deal will be reached without a repeat.

Y'all might start at the state workers, get rid of the DEAD weight, God knows some of these people get a big check and don't do squat for it, for that matter, you should start with the governor and work your way down. I vote for a 10% pay decrease, that should put a hefty dent into the budget, or say a cheaper medical plan!!! Spend a day in our shoes, betcha that would make you cringe!
