DeWeese Gets Support

Representative Paul DeWeese is the republican running for the Lansing State Senate seat and it got the unusual endorsement of the eight ministers from eight African American churches. The Rev. Dr. Melvin Jones called DeWeese a long time friend of the Black community and not some politician coming around at election time looking for support.

DeWeese's opponent in the hotly contest race, democrat Virgil Benero, says once the ministers and others find out about DeWeese's conservative voting record of "supporting John Engler 95 percent of the time," they will support him.

DeWeese speaking before the endorsement news conference says he is honored to have the support and he is making a "personal and morale commitment" to minority voters.
