The first phase of Michigan's archery deer season begins Friday and runs through Nov.14.
The state says bowhunters will account for one-quarter of the half million Michigan deer to be taken by hunters this year. They killed an estimated two-thousand bucks last year in eastern Chippewa and Mackinac counties.
The DNR says about 775,000 hunters will buy at least one Michigan deer license this year. They will spend more than $500 million for food, lodging, transportation and equipment.
