Scientists at Michigan State University have helped discover a promising new way to repair DNA.

Michigan State Professor Robert Hausinger says applications of the research by other scientists might someday lead to repairing human cells damaged by everything from cancer to aging.

Hausinger, Michigan State doctoral student Timothy Henshaw and colleagues at the Cancer Research UK London Research Institute in Hertfordshire, England, researched using oxygen to repair DNA.

Their work is published in Thursday's issue of the journal "Nature."
