Michigan lawmakers are getting details on proposals that would balance the state government budget without general tax increases.

The broad agreement in principle expected to include a tax amnesty program and a retirement incentive plan for state employees could be signed Wednesday by legislative leaders and members of Gov. Jennifer Granholm's administration. Legislative leaders are getting feedback on the plan before signing it.

Many details would have to be worked out before proposals would go before the Republican-led Senate and Democratic-led House for votes.

Lawmakers are trying to erase a general fund deficit of $302 million this fiscal year and a shortfall of $484 million for the budget year that begins Oct. 1.
