JACKSON - A Jackson police officer is taken to the hospital following a confrontation Thursday. The officer responded to a call at about 3:30 P.M. Thursday, stating that a man was acting suspiciously around a home for sale on the 1100 block of North Blackstone Street. When she arrived she noticed the man was carrying a small bat. When she approached him, the man attacked her, pushing her to the ground, but did not use the bat. Other officers arrived and were able to subdue the man.
The injured officer was taken to Allegiance Heath where she was treated and released. The injury is not serious.
The 47-year-old man is expected to be arraigned on charges for assaulting the police officer later Friday afternoon. Police did not have a determination as to why the man was at the house with a bat, or why he attacked the officer. The investigation continues.
