LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Democratic gubernatorial candidate Virg Bernero says he'll stop the state from doing business with banks that won't lend in Michigan if he's elected.
He unveiled the plan Thursday to about a dozen Lansing residents in a downtown coffee shop. It was this week's final stop in his "Fighting for Main Street Tour" with running mate Brenda Lawrence.
A call Thursday seeking comment from a Michigan Bankers Association spokeswoman was not immediately returned.
Bernero says Wall Street banks aren't lending to small businesses that could be adding jobs or "working with Michigan to stop foreclosures" by participating in the state's Helping Hardest Hit Homeowners Fund.
Republican opponent Rick Snyder's campaign didn't have an immediate response.
