Since 1994, gun makers have not been able to manufacture semi-automatic weapons, and large ammunition magazines. The 1994 ban was a result of a series of violent shootings involving the weapons. For the past ten years, retailers could sell the guns still, but the prices skyrocketed due to the lack of production by gun manufacturers.
Monday, the ban was lifted. Lansing Police say despite the ten-year ban, they still found assault weapons on the street. They believe, weapons ban or not, criminals will still find a way to get their hands on an assault weapon.
