Dawn Boechler was diagnosed with breast cancer last year at age 56, the same age her mother was also diagnosed. After a mastectomy and chemotherapy, she is cancer-free but will be closely followed by her doctor over the next four years.
Boechler's coworkers have teamed up to support her and help raise money to make breast cancer a thing of the past. They will be walking with her at the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk in Lansing on October 2. The walk raises awareness and dollars that are used towards research and support programs in the mid-Michigan area.
Boechler says she is fortunate to have friends and family who supported her throughout her treatment and continue to join her in the cause to find a cure for breast cancer.
