WATCH - Mister Rogers Testifies Before the U.S. Senate

Forty five years ago today, Fred Rogers testified before the United States Senate about the importance of children's programming.

He spoke eloquently about the need to provide positive models for children, to give them the tools that they need to deal with their feelings in a productive way. He described his work on his program (which would later become the iconic Mister Rogers' Neighborhood on PBS.

The openly skeptical panel of senators are no match for Mister Rogers good nature, and unmistakeable concern for the well-being of young children, and in just a few short moments of his testimony, agree to fund his children's programming project.
