Some Detroiters warned the city about a sinkhole on their street two years ago. Sunday, it opened up.
The hole is 10-feet wide and 15 feet deep. The people in the neighborhood think it may get even bigger. They believe the road collapsed because heavy dump trucks have driven over it repeatedly for years and eventually loosened up a water main.
"It started actually two years ago with a little dip, said one neighbor. "It was just like you would come in and it would be a little sink"
"Cars begin to scrub as they come down the street," said another neighbor.
The Public Works Department put asphalt on the uneven surface a few days ago, and may not have realized the problem. Neighbors want the city to fix the hole before it gets bigger.
