It's part of a nation-wide St. Vincent effort. David Kelmer, GM of the Jackson St. Vincent DePauls says they were originally asked to collect toiletries and clothes. The job eventually grew to include toys and school supplies for kids.
What they collected was more than Kelmer imagined. He says the outpouring was more than he's ever seen Jackson give to one effort.
The items were packed on a semi-truck by volunteers from the public and local churches. The truck is set to hit the road 8am Friday, bound for Atlanta. From there, St. Vincent DePaul will take inventory and distribute the goods across the devastated areas as need requires.
