The three million dollar project had been held up in legal disputes, but is finally underway.
Initial work will shut down only parts of the most easterly lane of Okemos Road between Jolley and Mt. Hope. After about ten days, however, the lane will be totally shut down, creating three lanes - one northbound, one southbound and one center turning lane.
Construction will overlap three home MSU football games... alternate routes to Spartan Stadium are recommended. But, the Ingham County Road Commission will be looking at ways of maximizing northbound traffic before the games... and southbound traffic after the games.
The project to add an additional lane of traffic to the two mile stretch of Okemos road should finish in mid-October.
