Sgt. Chad Coney, a fire investigator with the Michigan State Police, says the Herbruck's Poultry Ranch building which went up in flames Tuesday night is posing some challenges.
The steel trusses which make up the roof (now on the ground) need to be peeled away. Also, the vents which supplied air to the 250-thousand chickens that were lost sent fire spewing in all different directions - making it difficult to determine an origin.
In the meantime, the owners of Herbrucks are already looking at rebuilding. The loss is about 10-percent of their production... but combining the loss of the chickens, building and equipment that was inside... the total could amount to five million dollars.
