"It's about having a job. But it's also about having a roof over your head," says Democratic candidate for governor Virg Bernero. He's calling now for a foreclosure moratorium.

"For people that are being thrown out of their homes, it matters. It's a serious issue. It's not something that should be on the back burner," he says.

At a Detroit Economic Club gathering Thursday, Bernero calls it Michigan's biggest issue right now. He directly addresses banks preying on people in danger of losing their homes.

"If you are part of the problem, if you're part of the Wall Street greed, then you and I are going to have a problem," he says.

Bernero's opponent, Republican Rick Snyder, agrees foreclosure issues are serious. He talks about what he considers even more pressing.

"Number one on that list is the need for more and better jobs," Snyder says. "Government's role is not to create jobs, it's to create an environment where jobs can flourish."

The two men didn't share the stage at the same time, but they were asked the same questions from the audience of economic club members and high school students. One question-- what has your opponent said about you that's not true?

"The whole thing about outsourcing," Snyder says. "Those are untrue. At Gateway I'm proud of my record. I helped grow a company from a few hundred to 10,000 when I was managing the company."

"They've got another one out that talks about our unemployment rate. In Lansing, we're the second lowest in the state. Did unemployment go up? Of course it did, it went up throughout the entire state. It just went up less in Lansing," Bernero says.

This isn't the last time this week the two men will be under the same roof talking about their campaigns. They're scheduled to square off in a televised debate Sunday night at 7:00. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
