Candidates Cast Their Votes, Seem Optimistic

As Rick Snyder waits his turn to vote at his local township hall, people snap pictures and shake his hand. If the Republican candidate for governor has any nerves going into Election Day, you wouldn't know it.

"I slept fine," Snyder tells reporters. "The response has been so fabulous across the state. It is time to reinvent Michigan. I'm excited. I just hope people turn out to vote."

Snyder jokes he's got a few votes, at least; he showed up to the polls with his wife and children.

"I've had some absentee people already send in their vote," he says. "I think I'll get at least a couple dozen."

If the polls are any indication, he'll get far more than that. Our last EPIC-MRA poll had Snyder a firm 18 points ahead of his opponent, Democrat Virg Bernero.

That doesn't seem to be affecting Bernero, who was in extremely high spirits when he voted this morning at Lewton Elementary in Lansing, where his wife is principal.

"I don't make predictions. I'll leave that to the voters and to you guys, of course, the prognosticators," Bernero says.

But Bernero knows, at least in the fundraising, he's at a disadvantage. He's asked if he wishes he'd had another two weeks to campaign.

"Two weeks," he laughs, "and two million dollars. They'd go well together. I mean, I was outspent four to one. That makes it tough, but I think we are winning the ground game."

Just a few more hours-- and we'll know if that's true or not.
