A new Democratic TV ad accuses a Republican candidate for Michigan Supreme Court of being too soft on a teenager who was convicted of abducting a man outside a sub shop and killing him.
The Democratic Party ad says Macomb County Circuit Judge Mary Beth Kelly could have locked up Ihab Maslamani before a crime spree last year led to the murder of Matt Landry.
Maslamani was recently convicted and faces life in prison.
The ad highlights a 2009 partial quote from Kelly, who told The Detroit News she felt "really badly."
Kelly says she was referring to all that had been done to try to rehabilitate Maslamani in the juvenile system. She says she had no authority to put him in jail or deport him.
