Holt Parents Try to Put the Brakes on School Changes

Parents in the Holt School District tried to talk the school board out of implementing some changes for the next school year. The board wants to move seniors from the high school to the ninth-grade campus and move ninth graders to the high school. It's also talking about closing Midway Elementary and turning it into a preschool. One woman who's both a parent and a teacher said things are moving way too quickly.

"I've been accused of being resistant to change or being fearful of change. I am the last person to be fearful of change. I have been on every committee that's ever done anything around here to be moving forward and I see the red flags. I see an entire list of little details that might seem like not much but i think when you add them up they're really gonna impact things."

Some of the red flags mentioned by parents include not having the building assignments finalized when students are about to sign up for next semester's classes and not being ready to make needed architectural changes to Midway before it can become a preschool.

The school board president didn't know if or when the board will vote on the proposals. The next meeting is scheduled for December 9. Stay with News 10 and wilx.com to find out when a vote will be held.
