Meridian Township (WILX)-- Meridian Township crime stats are in and the news is not necessarily good.
Compared to last year violent crimes have risen by more than half. Robbery alone has more than doubled.
However, police don't plan to take any drastic measures because the increase is just a small portion of the overall crime trend.
"Most of our crimes have gone down, especially in the last five years if you go back as far as 2008," said Lt. Greg Frenger with the Meridian Township Police.
Violent crimes were at their lowest in 2011 with only 75 reports, rising 8% in 2012. Police say they don't know why they are starting to see another rise this year, but they don't believe it's going to become a trend.
"Do I fear crime is moving to our direction? Absolutely not," said former chief of criminal investigations, and board trustee, Milton Scales.
