A man who was training to be a firefighter and set fire to his own apartment so he could help put it out is going to prison.
Matthew Landfair was sentenced to 5 to 35 years behind bars in a Clinton County courtroom Monday. He admitted to setting the fire at the Alana Woods Apartment complex in DeWitt in 2012.
The 36-year-old must also pay more than $381,000 in restitution to the two dozen victims that lost everything they owned because of that fire.
