East Lansing Police are investigating two unarmed robberies that took place at approximately 12:26 AM on Wednesday, June 12 in the alley just north of the East Lansing Marriott in downtown East Lansing.
Police say the first victim, a female MSU student, was walking in the alley when a black male approached her and ripped her purse off her shoulder. The suspect is described as having a medium build and being approximately 5'9" tall.
The second victim, also a student from MSU, was walking in the same vicinity around the same time, when she was approached by two other black males. One of them grabbed her iPhone out of her hand and got into a vehicle waiting nearby.
Police were able to locate the vehicle at the Saginaw and Coolidge intersection. A chase followed into Lansing, where all four suspects eventually ditched the car and fled on foot. The driver was located by ELPD near Clippert Street and Michigan Avenue, where he was arrested. He is awaiting charges. The three other suspects are outstanding.
The suspects in these cases are also believed to be tied to an armed robbery ELPD is investigating, which took place in downtown East Lansing on the night of Monday, June 10. That victim was also an MSU student.
Anyone with information is asked to contact ELPD Officer Dan Brown at (517) 319-6811 or ELPD Officer Chris Shadduck at (517) 319-6842.
