A 17-year-old Ionia girl says she made up the story of a stranger stopping her and attempting to abduct her.

She had told the Ionia County Sheriff's department that as she drove along a Lake Odessa Road last Saturday night, she was stopped by another car she thought was a police cruiser. She said the driver of that car motioned her out of the car and grabbed her. The unnamed girl then said she escaped by kicking the suspect, getting back in her car and driving away.

After interviews with several people, Sheriff's investigators became suspicious of the story and followed up with the girl. At that time she admitted she had made the encounter up.

The investigation report will be forwarded to the Ionia County Prosecutors Office for review.
