A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man police say is the man caught on a surveillance camera stuffing a charity jug under his coat then walking out of a Charlotte service station. The wanted man is Michael Joseph Painter.

The money was intended to help pay transportation costs for a five-year-old leukemia patient who needs to travel from his home in Olivet to Grand Rapids for frequent treatments.

If you have any information that would lead to Michael Painter, call Detective James Beal at the Charlotte Police Department at 517-543-8840.

I am fed up with people thinking that they should be #1 on the list. If they want it, they can take, use, or steal anything they want. I realize times are tough. Lots of people are out of work, lots of people are trying to live on very little, but to steal from someone who needs the money so they can travel to get help for a 5 year old. This is beyond belief. It is enough to make you think there should be a special sentencing for this kind of offender. Not just jail, not just run of the mill community service, something about as rotten a job as you could get.

Appaling. What disregard for the suffering of others. Does anyone know how/where to donate to the child in need? It would be a great gesture if people could donate to replace the stolen funds.

How long was his arrest record if there was a mugshot already?

We need to go back to the old punishment of public humiliation for criminals. Carrying a sign in front of the store, chain gangs and stockades would discourage some of these activities. If there is no guilt or humiliation for some, they do not learn.

Crime is on the rise.I see it getting worse. How about getting jobs in Mi to put many to work.It would be better than having to fight crime all the time. The gov could save so much money instead of spending it on high crime. Many people would feel so much better about them selves and not have to steal or ask for help. Many now in poverty just aren't handling it well.
