What began as innocent Internet conversations, ended with several salacious chat logs, showing predators on the prowl for sex with young boys and girls.
"They were explicit they were graphic, they would horrify any parent, " said Thomas Cameron of the Michigan Attorney General.
The Livingston County Sheriff's Office partnered with the Michigan Attorney General using undercover agents posing as young children on the net.
"Predators descended upon those personas or identities," Cameron said.
Investigators say they gave the predators an address to house in Howell where they thought they were coming for sex with a 14-year-old child, instead they were arrested on the spot,
"One of the defendants that we arrested brought pornographic movies and condoms to the house," Cameron said.
"There was over 150 people that were communicating with our officers, thinking they were talking to a 14 year old," said Livingston County Sheriff Robert Bezotte
But nine suspects were arrested over the weekend, after traveling as far as Ohio to engage in sex -- one a retired Detroit Police Officer, another a 29-year-old software programmer, the nine men now face two 20 year felony charges for child sexually abusive activity and using a computer to commit that crime.
"The thought of people like that being out there, it's just disturbing that somebody would find having any kind of sexual interaction with a young child," said Debbie Baird who lives in Howell.
"It disgusts me, I would hate for someone to do that to my daughter," said Donna Fick, another Howell resident.
People who live in Howell are surprised it happened in their own backyard, but are relieved the predators are behind bars.
"I'd certainly rather have the suspects off the streets than on," Baird said.
