Two brothers accused of burning a 6-year-old boy's buttocks with a blowtorch have been charged with first-degree child abuse.
Thirty-six-year-old Gerald Hall and 43-year-old Glen Hall were charged Wednesday. Each was being held Thursday evening in the Clare County Jail on $150,000 bond pending a May 5 preliminary hearing.
Michigan State Police investigators say the boy, who is Gerald Hall's son, was burned at least once. Sgt. Del Putnam tells the Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant the boy has recovered physically and is in protective custody.
First-degree child abuse is a 15-year felony, but Glen Hall could be sentenced to 1 1/2 times the maximum penalty as a habitual offender. He is on parole after serving prison time in a 2003 drunken driving case in Isabella County.
