JACKSON - A Jackson teenager will spend up to 9 years in prison for the 2006 shooting death of a convenience store clerk. Willie E. Anderson II was sentenced in a Jackson court Thursday morning to 5 years 11months - 9 years. He had been charged with murder, but pleaded no contest to a voluntary manslaughter in January.
In October of 2008, a jury could not reach a verdict in Anderson's jury trial. A new trial was scheduled, but stopped when Anderson decided to plea to the lesser charge.
Harinder Singh Kang was killed in the shooting at Chuckles Party store on High Street in Jackson on September 4, 2006.
The 19 year old Anderson spent 2 years in county jail before going to trial, and his family has been vocal in the community in proclaiming his innocence.
