German automaker Daimler AG says that Dieter Zetsche, its chief executive of four years, has had his contract extended through the end of 2013.

In a statement the automaker, based in Stuttgart, said that Zetsche, who replaced Juergen Schrempp at the beginning of 2006 and helped unwind its failed merger with what was then Chrysler, had his contract extended until Dec. 31, 2013. It had been set to expire at the end of this year.

The automaker also extended the contract of Thomas Weber, who oversees group research and development at its Mercedes-Benz unit, to the end of 2013.

Additionally, Wolfgang Bernhard was named to Daimler's management board and will oversee production of Mercedes-Benz cars, along with its vans division.
