In 2008, Independent Bank associates throughout Michigan worked with local community groups and schools to educate children and adults of all ages about the importance of money management, saving and financial responsibility.

Empires have fallen in the past after people were taxed beyond their ability to pay. Stay divided and keep practicing every man for himself and see what happens.
I am sorry that I can not turn over all of the pay check to they state and federal government. They already get over 1/3 of it with every possible tax they can think. They get another 1/6 because they tax the people i buy from.
Sarah, what a GREAT idea. Let's cut education and focus on jobs that do not need an educated work force. Then we can have a state full of fast food employees and other low paying, part time jobs. That is a great way to rebuild our economy. This crisis did not come about overnight. Getting out of it will not happen overnight. Education is KEY to Michigan's economy improving for the long term--which is what we all need and want.
Instead of cutting education, why not make all districts lengthen their days and shorten the school year to Memorial Day? The transportation and utilities costs would save tens of thousands of dollars per district, and the state would benefit from the additional tourism because families could travel during the long weekend.
Cut education. I say this because jobs are hard to come by and many college grads aren't finding any jobs anyways. So why invest in education? Privatize some state programs such as the lottery. Make government smaller, not bigger. Bring jobs to this state that most anyone can do without needing a college education. This way more people have a chance to work. Just bringing "green" jobs is setting the bar too high for this state. People need to work now, not wait 4 years of college then work.
Since everyone is required to make a cut, why is it that the legislature isn't taking a cut in pay. At this point in Michigan's history I don't see a need for a full time legislature.
Why don't they have all state workers (except police and prison guards) only work 32 hours per week, no over time. My husband's shop did that. It sucks pay wise, but with every one else having to make cut backs, why can't they? Just think of the cost savings for not running their computers, lights and such!!! Why are they so much more special than the rest of us?????
iI HAVE A GREAT IDEA GET RID OF THE FULL TIME MONEY SPONGES THAT MAKE ALL OF THOSE SENSELESS CUTS TO ALL MICHIGANDERS AND AT THE SAME TIME VOTE TO FILL THERE OWN POCKETS!! ITS TIME TO TAKE BACK ARE STATE GET RID OF THEM JOKERS PARTIME GOVERNMENT ONLY MAKES SENSE
