I commute to Lansing every day and am sick of seeing these low life mooches out begging for money. I work 50 hours a week to support my family and have no patience or sympathy for those who beg their way through life.

It's hard for me to feel sorry for these people when I see them on their cell phones or tuned into their I-Pods. One panhandler keeps her mustang convertable discretely parked out of sight. I notice the nice acrylic salon nails on some of the ladies and wonder what good samaritan paid for them. Apparently I'm in the wrong line of work, because I can't afford those things. There is something we can do beyond calling the police on yet another nuisance call -STOP GIVING THEM MONEY and they'll go away or get a job!

Sadly, the sign losers are coming back. They layed low for maybe a week, then slowly started going back to their same old scamming.

it's not Granholm's fault; it's your fault for breaking a law.

I live on Edgewood...I see these panhandlers EVERYDAY....Initially when they first started coming out I was compassionate and gave them money especially because they really looked like they were going through rough times...and with the economy the way it is I knew everyone wasn't as fortunate as me. HOWEVER...when I see you there day after day after day...then clearly you are returning because you are getting something from it. You would think if you needed a job that bad you would use the money you have received to clean yourself up and find something. My boyfriend had been looking for work for AWHILE and now he works at the Sam's Club right there on Edgewood...SO obviously it is possible to find a job. The signs that kill me are the ones saying LOOKING FOR WORK...NO YOU AREN'T because your job is clearly panhandling....and how can you be looking for a job standing there for hours holding a sign. I have since stopped giving any of them money....I just ignore them now. If you want to make legitimate money at least offer a SERVICE. How about you stand on the corner selling popsicles when its hot or something that I would actually appreciate instead of just standing there with a sign asking for FREE money. If you all want to TRULY help people...give to the Advent House, Salvation Army, or the Lansing Mission. those are the people that TRULY need help.

So this morning at the intersection of 96 and Penn. a woman has a Meijer grocery cart with her to hold all her things (purse, etc) that she can't hold while pan handling. Just seemed so organized... I agree that its sad that people are suffering, but I'd like to see them take advantage of the services available in the community instead of organizing a panhandling ring.

I see panhandlers around Lansing. I do feel for people who are that much in need. For some, it's totally humiliating, for others it's just a way to make money fast without effort. Today I saw a woman with her dog out in this heat. While you play on sympathies your husband sits in the shade watching. I gave a bottle of water and explained the dangers to the dog and gave her a list of resources. Excuses are what I got. No, I didn't give money. I too have to be careful about overspending. Our community has resources for those in need. Walk through their doors and get the help you need and deserve, don't stand on corners asking others to donate.

It came to my attention months ago, that these people were on the corners like clock work. I said it has to be some type of "Ring" (almost like a gang) to where these people are put on these corners to get their money, and then in so many hours you would see someone else at that corner. As time went on the signs they were holding became a bit ridiculous, to simply say " Homeless, please help" I really hope whoever is really in need recieves more than what they need. It was upsetting to me because they can go and apply for a job, instead of manipulating the people, as if something is wrong with them!
