Rising Waters Forces College to Cancel Classes

A school in Michigan has canceled classes for the rest of the week in anticipation of flooding that's expected to cause problems at its campus.

Northwood University canceled Thursday and Friday classes at its campus in Midland along the rain-swollen Tittabawassee River.

The Midland County Office of Emergency Management has warned that rain would lead to substantial flooding along the river. If the campus area gets as much rain as expected, the school says its South Village apartments and other areas could flood.

The school is asking South Village residents to pack personal belongings in preparation for a possible evacuation and take belongings home if people are leaving campus. The school says it will be keeping track of students through the weekend to ensure safety.
